Aunt Joan School of Excellence is a registered non-profit in the United States to support and finance the development and operations of the school in Liberia. The IRS EIN code is: 87-4599368.The goal of the AJSE is to provide a child and technology friendly learning environment where Liberian children will develop to their fullest capacity using state of the art educational facilities. Our learning environment and facilities aim to be comparable to other schools of excellence not only in our subregion but the global community.

The school needs funds both to finish the facility and to help the day-to-day operations at this time. The school facility is mostly complete, but the following work still needs to be done: Fence with gates around the school  (put estimate here) Bars on some windows and railings on walkways  (put estimate here)

Transformer to handle the electricity need  (put estimate here) Flooring, plaster and paint for the second floor  (put estimate here)

Furnishing a classroom ($2,000) - includes desk chairs, teacher desk, whiteboards, etc. A person, family or group who sponsors the furnishings for an entire classroom will be recognized with a plaque will be placed in the classroom naming the sponsor and which can be dedicated to an individual or group. Sponsors will receive a copy of their plaque and, once classes begin, photos of their classroom. Once fully operational, the school hopes to be self-supportive from tuition to educate between 400 and 500 students a year. In US dollars, tuition is low at $150, but typical income for a family in Liberia ranges from $1,000 to $4,000. Teacher salaries at the school are above average for the country, but are still only $1,700 a year (approx). The total cost of running the school for 400 students is equivalent to the average private school tuition for 4 students at a  in the US. The main need for scholarship or tuition reduction will be to keep students in school longer for families that cannot afford for multiple children.
